About Me
Makayla is a Southern California native who discovered her passion for journalism and storytelling at Ruben S. Ayala High School. She went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Journalism at Northern Arizona University, with a minor in Public Relations, giving her a well-rounded understanding of the news cycle from all angles.
While at NAU, she held leadership positions at the school’s newspaper, radio station and broadcast channel. She also received awards for her coverage of the 2024 presidential election, as well as Super Bowl LIX and Super Bowl LVII.
She currently works as a multimedia journalist at KSBY News in San Luis Obispo, California, where she tells the stories of local communities and sheds light on the issues and people that matter most.
When she’s not working, Makayla enjoys crocheting, film photography, camping and making her way through The Lord of the Rings book series.
